Job Title: IT Technician III
Classification: Hourly, nonexempt
Pay Range: $28 – $31 per hour
POSITION SUMMARY
The Managed Services IT Technician III is a senior-level role responsible for advanced systems administration, network engineering, and project leadership. This position handles the most complex client issues, leads implementations, and ensures client environments are secure, stable, and scalable.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Act as the final technical escalation point for complex incidents and problem management across server, virtualization, storage, networking, and Microsoft 365.
• Design, deploy, and maintain Windows Server/Active Directory (AD DS/Azure AD), including GPOs, DNS/DHCP, PKI, certificates, and identity synchronization (Entra Connect).
• Lead migrations and projects: on-prem Exchange to Microsoft 365, file server to OneDrive/SharePoint, tenant-to-tenant moves, server upgrades, and data-center/virtualization refreshes.
• Engineer and support VMware vSphere (7/8), clusters, DVS, HA/DRS, templates, and VM lifecycle; collaborate on capacity planning, performance tuning, and hardware lifecycle.
• Backup, recovery, and DR for virtual and physical workloads (Veeam Backup & Replication, copy jobs, immutability, runbooks, and recovery objectives).
• Architect and administer enterprise storage (SAN/NAS), including provisioning (iSCSI/NFS/SMB), MPIO, snapshots/replication, and file system choices (NTFS/ReFS/XFS) with performance and data-protection best practices.
• Automate routine tasks and build tooling using PowerShell (modules, scripting standards, source control) and document repeatable procedures/runbooks.
• Implement hardening and compliance controls (secure baselines, patching, vulnerability remediation, logging/monitoring), aligning to frameworks (CIS, NIST, HIPAA/PCI as applicable).
• Provide technical leadership on customer projects: scope, design, bills of materials, change plans (ITIL), execution, and stakeholder communication.
• Mentor Technicians I/II; review designs, changes, and scripts; deliver knowledge-transfer/training to internal teams and customers.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and planned maintenance windows; respond to P1 incidents and lead root-cause analysis with corrective actions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Deep expertise in Windows Server administration and Active Directory (sites/services, group policy design, delegated administration, certificate services).
• Microsoft 365/Entra ID: Exchange Online, SharePoint/OneDrive, Teams, Intune/Autopilot, conditional access, identity synchronization, mail flow/security, and migration tooling.
• Virtualization: VMware vSphere (clusters, DVS, HA/DRS), templates, VM troubleshooting (CPU/mem/storage/latency), and performance analysis.
• Backup/DR: Veeam (repositories, SOBR, copy/replication, encryption/immutability, SureBackup, instant recovery), recovery planning and testing.
• Storage: SAN/NAS concepts, RAID, thin provisioning, snapshots/replication, performance metrics (IOPS/latency/throughput), and host connectivity (iSCSI/FC/NFS/SMB, MPIO).
• Networking fundamentals at the enterprise level (VLANs, routing, switching, firewalls, VPN/SD-WAN, QoS) sufficient to diagnose infra/app issues.
• Security/hardening: baseline configuration, privileged access, patching, endpoint controls, log collection/SIEM basics, incident response playbooks.
• Scripting/automation: strong PowerShell (modules, REST, scheduled tasks), Git-based version control, and change validation.
• Tooling and observability: hypervisor/storage monitoring, Windows and M365 audit/log analysis, performance counters.
• Consulting skills: clear written/verbal communication, customer-facing professionalism, estimation/scoping, and the ability to translate business needs into technical designs.
• Process orientation: documentation habit, runbooks, change records, root-cause analysis, and continual improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Candidate must be willing to reside near or commute to a Joink office (Currently within Illinois: Taylorville, Hillsboro; Indiana: Terre Haute)
• Education/Certs: Bachelor’s in IT/CS or equivalent experience. Relevant certifications strongly preferred (e.g., Microsoft/Azure Administrator or Expert, VMware VCP, Veeam VMCE, CompTIA Security+, Cisco/fortinet network certs).
• 5+ years administering Windows Server/AD and Microsoft 365 in an MSP or enterprise setting, including leading complex migrations and upgrades.
• Virtualization/backup: 3-+ years hands-on with VMware vSphere and Veeam in production.
• Prior supervisory or team lead experience preferred.
