ABOUT THE COMPANY

Joink, LLC (“Joink” or the “Company”) is a fiber and fixed wireless broadband provider that owns and operates over 1,000 fiber route miles across Indiana and Illinois. The Company’s near-term focus is to further grow its fiber-to-the-home (“FTTH”) and enterprise fiber business. Recently, the Company acquired Computer Techniques, LLC, a FTTH company, based in central Illinois. Joink is backed by DIF Capital Partners (“DIF”), a global independent investment manager with EUR 15 billion in assets under management, and Gilead Group, a family office located in St Louis.

POSITION SUMMARY

This Executive will be a member of the executive team and will be an integral part of the company’s success, working with internal and external stakeholders to further grow Joink and rapidly expand its FTTH passings.

This Executive must have a strong design, engineering, and construction background with the ability to lead local staff, remote staff, field team members, and contractors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Collaborate with Executive Team on its aggressive growth strategy of rapid expansion of FTTH to additional homes in new regions (initially Illinois and Indiana markets)
  • Participate in growth committee meetings, assisting in setting internal and external goals for production as well as reviewing current and future build areas, always:
    • Assuring build plans are designed at pace with construction capacity
    • Reviewing and determining gaps in process or in work products that bottleneck construction
    • Participating in meetings with municipalities and other internal stakeholders to discuss design/construction processes
  • Review design and construction footprint of potential acquisitions and help formulate strategies as the company grows
  • Lead all design and construction related functions necessary to create serviceable passings to single family homes and apartment complexes (from budgeting to the completion of a serviceable passing as well as the associated restoration)
  • Lead all design and construction related functions necessary to expand the remote office electronics locations (site selection, purchase agreement, site planning, utility coordination, redundancy, and the associated restoration)
  • Drive the annual budgeting process and goal setting (both at the department level)
  • Build, manage, and communicate a dashboard of operating metrics and KPIs to help guide business decision making for the management team and the Board
  • Build, manage, and communicate a dashboard view of the team’s milestones, outstanding work, completed work, and footage for internal board-level reporting so the team can see how they are performing against established goals and targets
  • Utilize multiple systems for design, approvals, budgeting, and construction management
  • In conjunction with Sr. Construction Designers Manager and Sr Fiber Connectivity & Planning Manager, review and ensure on-time pace of production of internal and external design team(s), including:
    • High level designs and budgets
    • Formulas and processes used in drawing design and development
    • Construction drawings
    • Assurance of right of way dimensions in construction drawings
    • Cable placement drawings
    • Splicing drawings
    • Central and remote office equipment placement and patching drawings
    • Specialized drawings and instructions for unusual utility installation parameters
    • Specialized drawings for MDU projects
    • Traffic control plans
  • In conjunction with Sr. Construction Management:
    • Visit jobsites to review construction in accordance to drawings
    • Review jobsite safety and adherence to construction best practices
    • Visit cable placement and splicing jobsites, for compliance to drawings and best practices
  • Keep abreast of best practices in underground construction, specifically fiber to the home
  • Participate in the HR processes, related to departmental:
    • Training/developing
    • Coaching
    • Performance appraisals
    • And resolution of grievances or complaints
  • Collaborate with sales team to review penetration, forecasting, and share information on Joink’s technological and availability capabilities that may help inform and expand the team’s awareness in sales engagements
  • Lead and review the preparation of project-specific engineering models (budgets, shape files, and sketches) for inclusion with various grant applications
  • Serve on the internal compliance and risk management committees

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary degree, with physics, mechanical, fiber optic, electrical or relevant studies
  • Experience with AutoCad, ArcMap (3-GIS) or fiber software packages
  • Experience in design and construction, preferably in telecom industry
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
  • Candidate must be willing to reside near and routinely work in Joink’s Terre Haute, Indiana office
  • Team player who is willing to “get hands dirty” and help where needed

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Generally, 8 AM – 5 PM, Monday – Friday
  • Occasional before work/after work meetings and events
  • Attend four in-person board meetings at various locations in the US each year
  • Travel as part of M&A, continuing education, and industry conferences
  • Less than 10% overnight travel
