Job Title: Cable Placement Technician

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Joink, LLC was founded as an Internet Service Provider, providing dial-up, DSL and fixed wireless broadband Internet services.  Today, the company provides connectivity for customers who span the landscape from residential to enterprise using technologies that include leased lines, unlicensed wireless, licensed wireless, and fiber optics.  Also, the company provides managed hosting services including virtual machine, web/email, and offsite backup storage.  And finally, the Company’s technology services group leverages its enterprise knowledge of networking, software, storage, and telephony technologies to provide design, installation, and continued supported around key technologies from companies such as VMware, Cisco UCS, IBM, Veeam and Microsoft.

POSITION SUMMARY

This representative will utilize company tools and software to locate handholes and paths of the Joink network and place fiber optic cable through ducts, performing cable management to ensure long-term serviceability and sealing them according to Joink standards.

  • Cable Placement Supervisor

SUPERVISES

  • No direct reports
  • May lead, train, or participate in work team assignments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Use company software to locate handholes and paths of the Joink network.
  2. Assist in the coordination of the placement of fiber optic cables.
  3. Maintain all cable placement equipment (i.e. cable blowers, tools, trailers, vehicles).
  4. Place fiber optic cable through duct using related equipment and following standards, regulations, and best practices.
  5. Perform cable management inside handholes to ensure long term serviceability and seal ducts according to Joink standards.
  6. Responsible for stocking inventory for truck and assist in maintaining inventory of unique tools and supplies.
  7. Driving duties include conveying materials, equipment, and staff to and from work sites and ability to meet necessary FMCSA requirements (includes passing the DOT physical).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Adept in verbal communication.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to evaluate situations and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Ability to learn and use specific computer programs.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • 40 hours per week
  • Almost exclusively outside, year-round, in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to work overtime with and without notice.
  • Occasional travel for training and professional development

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidate must be willing to reside near or commute to a Joink office (Currently within Illinois: Taylorville, Hillsboro; Indiana: Terre Haute)
  • Candidates which have the following will have priority:
    • Associate degree related to telecommunications or 2+ years’ equivalent experience
    • Experience with compressed air/blower machines
