Doug Hawkins; Baritone
Doug is one of the original members and the manager of the Crimson Cross
Quartet. He was born and raised in Greene County (Indiana) and has sang in
church since his teenage years. His earliest singings were usually duets
with his dad as they sang "specials" in church. Later Doug went
on to a song-leader position, and eventually lead the church choir for various
timeframes. In the 90's, Doug sang with part-time local quartets
"Saved By Grace" and "Redeemed" and helped form
"Crimson Cross" early in 2002. Doug provides the baritone sounds
for the group and occasionally offers a humorous anecdote to the audience, just
to keep them smiling. He accepted Jesus as his personal savior at 8 years
of age and finally upon hearing southern gospel quartet style music, Doug knew
what he was called to do.
He considers it an honor and a privilege to serve the Lord in this capacity and
really hopes to introduce the lost to Christ. He also counts it a joy to
sing to listeners who are already Christians that just want to rejoice, praise
the Lord and sing along with the group. Doug feels that if listeners get
half the blessing that the guys get when they sing, then it's all worthwhile.
Doug and Brenda (his wife), have two grown and married children and now live
quiet, country lives near Clay City, IN. Brenda, an excellent pianist
herself, assists with the group's music. The Hawkins' attend and are
active in the Coal City Community Bible Church and have dedicated themselves to
spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ through music.
